What does a thermostat do?
A thermostat, in its most basic form, simply turns your furnace and air conditioner on and off according to the ambient temperature in your home and the temperature setting you’ve selected.
Most people don’t know that a quality thermostat dramatically improves indoor comfort due to its ability to maintain a consistent temperature.

What is the difference between digital (electronic) and mechanical style thermostats?
There are many differences, but the single thing you will notice the most is increased comfort when you upgrade from a mechanical style to a digital style. Some of the most notable features touted by digital thermostats are: increased accuracy meaning less noticeable temperature swings, digital display makes it easy to read and adjust, and programming options that increase your units efficiency which saves you up to 33% of your energy bill.

I don’t know which model I need, how can I choose?
There are three main things that you must know when selecting a digital thermostat, please read below.

  1. What type of heating and cooling system is in your home? There are three application types of thermostats that are designed to control virtually all residential heating and cooling systems. You must identify which application type best matches your heating and cooling system. The three application types are:

    1. single stage
    2. staging heat pump
    3. staging fossil fuel
(note: your heating and cooling technician can evaluate your system and choose the proper application type)

  2. What features are most appropriate for your lifestyle? There are three styles of White-Rodgers thermostats, choose the style that you’re most comfortable with.
  3. 1. Premium 90 Series
    2. Standard 80 Series

  4. Do you prefer programming or non-programming? Programmable thermostats offer some outstanding comfort, convenience, and efficiency benefits, but we have a non-programmable model in the series of your choice if programming just isn’t your cup of tea.

How much energy savings can I anticipate if I use a programmable thermostat?
The amount of energy savings realized by a programmable thermostat varies greatly depending upon your climate, furnace and air conditioner efficiency, quality of home insulation, and number of “setback" periods per day.
Generally speaking, you can save up to 33%... look at the cost savings calculator to find out more.
